# Find your Google listing

Step 2 of setting up Kudos. Two minutes, and one of those should be spent checking you picked the
right one.

Nothing is sent to any of your clients until you finish step 6.

## What this step decides

This is the listing your clients land on when they choose to leave a review. Kudos sends them to
Google's own review form for this listing and nothing else.

**Read this before you press the button:** once a listing is saved, it cannot be cleared from the
setup page. This is deliberate, because the alternative is a practice quietly pointing its review
requests at a different business halfway through a year. If you pick the wrong one, email support
and we will fix it, but you cannot undo it yourself.

## The steps

1. Type your practice name **including your suburb**. For example `Smith & Co Accountants,
   Parramatta` rather than `Smith & Co`.
2. Press **Search**. You will get up to five results, each with a name and an address.
3. Read the **address**, not just the name. That is what the address is there for.
4. Select yours and press **Use this listing**.

## Picking the right one

### You have more than one office

Each office usually has its own Google listing, and they will look almost identical in the results.
**The address is the only thing that tells them apart.**

Kudos sends every review request to **one** listing, for the whole practice. So pick the office you
want reviews to accumulate against, which for most practices is the main one. If you genuinely need
different offices pointing at different listings, email support before you go live; that needs a
separate account per office today.

### Your name appears twice at the same address

That usually means a duplicate listing, which is worth cleaning up in Google Business Profile
regardless. Pick the one you actually manage, which is the one that shows your real opening hours
and photos when you search for it on Google yourself. Then ask Google to merge the other.

### Nothing comes back

Search the same words on Google Maps first. If the listing does not appear there either, you do not
have one yet, and reviews have nowhere to land.

**Creating one is free and takes about ten minutes** at `business.google.com`, but Google usually
requires verification by post or phone before the listing goes live, which can take days. Do that
first, then come back to this step. Kudos cannot do it for you and cannot work without it.

### You are not sure which is yours

Search your practice on Google Maps in another tab. The listing you can edit, the one that offers
you an owner dashboard rather than a "suggest an edit" link, is yours.

## What each message means

| What you saw | What to do |
|---|---|
| We could not run that search. Contact support. | A fault on our side, not something you can fix. Email support. |
| Our Google lookup is not configured. Contact support. | A fault on our side. Email support. |
| Too many searches just now. Wait a minute and try again. | Wait a minute. Searching is rate-limited so the lookup is not abused. |
| We could not reach Google just now. Try again. | A temporary network fault. Try again in a minute. |
| That listing could not be saved. Search again and pick from the list. | Search again and choose from the results rather than retrying. This also appears if you try to clear a listing that is already set, which is not possible from this page. |
| Too many changes in a short time. Try again in an hour. | Wait an hour. |
| Only the account owner can set this. | Ask whoever created the Kudos account to do this step. |
| Your login is attached to more than one practice. Contact support. | Something is set up unusually on your account. Email support. |
| You were signed out. Sign in and try again. | Sign back in and search again. |
| We could not save that listing. Try again. | A temporary fault between your browser and Kudos. Press the button again. If it keeps happening, email support. |
| Pick a listing from the results first. | Search, then choose your business from the list before saving. |

## If you are using an AI assistant

**What it can do for you**

- Explain why the choice is permanent and what that means for you
- Help you work out which of two similar results is yours, from the addresses
- Talk you through creating a Google Business Profile if you do not have one
- Explain any message you have seen

**What it should not do**

- **Choose for you.** It cannot see which listing you manage, and a confident wrong answer here is
  expensive to undo.
